Session 2 • Scripture • Devotional
This Psalm contains countless references to God’s ‘word’ and encourages us to live lives that are deeply rooted in God’s commands, and precepts. It is also the longest Psalm, so you may not want to tackle it all at once! It is split up into 22 smaller sections, so you can simply pick one of those smaller sections, like the one below, and meditate on 8-10 verses at a time. As you prayerfully read through the verses, spend some time reflecting on your own life and relationship with God’s word. Invite God to speak to you about how he wants to nourish and guide you. Ask God to fill you with a greater desire for his word. What might God’s invitation towards you be related to being more deeply rooted in Christ through the word of God?
Psalm 119
How can a young person stay on the path of purity?
By living according to your word.
I seek you with all my heart;
do not let me stray from your commands.
I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you.
Praise be to you, Lord;
teach me your decrees.
With my lips I recount
all the laws that come from your mouth.
I rejoice in following your statutes
as one rejoices in great riches.
I meditate on your precepts
and consider your ways.
I delight in your decrees;
I will not neglect your word.
